The Live Learn Leap Program is a Sport and Recreation initiative between AFL Cape York Limited and the Queensland Police and Citizens Youth Welfare Association operating in remote communities of Cape York Peninsula and Gulf Savannah Regions of North Queensland.
At Rossville State School we are extremely fortunate to have Smithy from ‘Live, Learn, Leap!’ visit the school this term and engage with everyone through basketball. All the students enjoyed playing the different games.
The Senior boys were also extra lucky to have an afternoon session with Smithy to discuss bigger things in life such as moving on to high school and how to succeed into adulthood.
We all look forward to seeing Smithy each Tuesday until the end of term and then into the first two weeks of term four.
Meet Smithy
Originally from Adelaide, Smithy moved to Cairns in February to play AFL for the South Cairns Cutters who just last weekend finished on top of the ladder for this season.
Smithy is a self-described sports tragic and loves to travel. What he loves about the Live, Learn Lean program is that he gets to be involved in sport and that it allows him to travel to a lot of the remote schools across the Cape and Gulf region in Queensland.
“Thanks Smithy, it’s great to have you here at Rossville SS!”
